Miracles in Action Commitment to Education

Education is the answer to poverty, but it is often out of reach for the poorest of the poor. Miracles in Action commits to a variety of education projects to improve the lives of rural Mayans.

School Construction

We work with non-profit partners in Guatemala to identify needs in poor rural communities.  Many of these rural Mayan children do not attend school past the 2nd or 3rd grade. Our goal is to encourage more education by building adequate facilities. Our school construction projects have three partners:  the community, which requests a school building with parents willing to provide the unskilled labor; the government, which provides the land and teachers; and Miracles in Action sponsors that donate the funds for building materials.  Together we work with our non-profit partners to oversee the project in Guatemala. Our donors are welcome to join us for the school inauguration and meet the students and the community that will benefit for generations to come!

Preschool program

Our innovative partner Magical Classroom provides preschool classes to prepare at-risk 4 to 6 year olds for first grade.  Preschool is not offered in most rural villages and many of these little ones do not know Spanish. They speak their mother's indigenous tongue. Through Magical Classroom's recorded songs, stories and lessons, kids can get a head start, plus learn Spanish.

Women Empowerment Workshops

Marta Sicajan conducts empowering workshops for women living in the most remote villages, like Chel in Quiche with The Ripple Effect
She shares her story of being trafficked at 15 years old from rural Guatemala to Fort Myers, FL., and how despite adversities and abuse, she survives and excels. Marta discusses women’s rights, building self-esteem, domestic violence, reproductive health, and family planning and how mothers can teach their sons to respect girls. As a role model, Marta leaves them with hope and understanding.
